Life Success — Momentum

September 1st, 2010 Filed under: Life Success -- Momentum by admin

Regardless of what you’re aiming for in life, few things are more important in generating success than momentum. Many great ideas and good intentions never become reality simply because of a lack of momentum.

Whatever it is that you intend to achieve, keep the following in mind:

1.  It’s a marathon, not a sprint.  Anyone who has become an ‘overnight success’ will likely tell you that it took them years to achieve their goal. I’m currently taking an online course and one of the exceptional guest speakers said she was a “19-year ‘overnight’ success”.  While it appeared to others that her success came quickly, it had not.

2.  To build and sustain momentum, plan for action more days than not. It’s unlikely that you will make daily progress or take daily action on your goals. Instead, be reasonable and aim for most days of the week. Find a middle ground and pace yourself — don’t push too hard and, likewise, don’t allow yourself to slip into a slump of inactivity. Targeting more days than not should allow for a healthy balance of activity and positive progress.

3. Be alert to the excuses you create that can stall your momentum. Most of us can easily fall into the trap of creative avoidance — that means we generate all sorts of reasons why we just couldn’t move forward today, yesterday, or all of last month! It happens more often than you think, so beware.

4. Be willing to be wrong; accept that you are going to make some mistakes. The desire for perfection will stall your progress every time.  Strong momentum includes all sorts of action, including wrong turns, false starts, and dead ends. From each of your so-called mistakes you will learn something important to help you ultimately attain your goal.

Achieving what matters most in life is a worthy endeavor.  It’s not about speed or perfection, it’s about designing a business, career, and life that reflect who you are and what you value. Defining and aligning these aspects is doable and worth every bit of the effort invested.  Start today. Do your best, do it consistently, and you will realize your goals sooner than later.

All the best,

Julie

There’s no ‘Quick Fix’

August 25th, 2010 Filed under: There's no 'Quick Fix' by admin

I wish there was a quick fix; I really do.  If you want to transform your business, your career, or your life — there’s no quick fix. If there was, surely someone would have figured it out by now! Many companies try to sell us on the idea of a quick fix, but most of us have figured out that those supposed quick fixes don’t last or they fail to deliver at a quality level.

Not only is there no quick fix, there’s no guaranteed path, and there’s no one way to achieve what you really want in life. But this is not all bad news. In fact, there actually is an upside…

In lieu of a quick fix to life’s challenges and opportunities, there is another option. A better way. It involves slowing down and taking time to focus on what’s not working in your life. Rather than seeking a quick fix, think longer term. Consider that almost everything in life is a process and the best results come when we allow time and space for things to develop and evolve. Many times, rushing into things that seem right for us only takes us farther off course.

Likewise, don’t hold back because you’re not sure of the outcome. Who is? Except for appliances, not many things in life come with a guarantee. Let go of the desire for a guaranteed option.  Instead, do your research, investigate your options, and make informed choices. Investing time and effort in these activities will increase your chances of success.

Finally, don’t buy into the idea that there’s only one way to do anything. It’s just not true. You are unique, your situation is unique, and your answers and new direction will be unique. Copying another’s path or trying to make changes ‘by the book’ will not generate the best results.

So as you look to upgrade and improve any aspect of your life, choose wisely. Pass on the ‘quick fix’, accept that there’s no guarantee, and have fun forging your own, unique path.

Much success,

Julie
