Stay in the Moment

March 11th, 2010 Filed under: Stay in the Moment by admin

Funny how situations seem to occur in ‘batches’.  This week I found myself talking to clients, almost all of them, about staying in the moment.  I coach motivated people who are eager to achieve their dreams, goals, and visions.  That means they frequently and naturally get ahead of themselves.

It’s good for each of us to remember that all we can control is what is happening right now.  Yes, we need to know where we’re headed, what we want, and have specific end goals in mind.  Otherwise, how will we know when we’ve ‘arrived’?  However, to truly reach those end goals we need to keep our focus on the here and now and take appropriate actions today.

Thinking way ahead and trying to anticipate all the possible outcomes is pointless.  It’s also tiring, distracting, and often depressing.  Yesterday one of my clients said, “I’ve been avoiding doing some of my action steps because I’m afraid that in the end, my plan won’t work”.  I understand what she meant, but it’s not a realistic or productive line of thinking.  We will never know if our plan is going to ‘work’ unless we stay in the moment and take the small action steps.

It’s precisely as we take the actions steps that we learn what’s working and what’s not.  As each client’s plan unfolds, adjustments are made as necessary.  That’s the logical and practical reality.  To allow run away thinking into the distant future isn’t logical, practical, or helpful.  The only approach that is guaranteed to ‘work’ is to set the goal, work the plan, and stay fully in the moment.

All the best,

Julie

Interviews ARE Happening

March 8th, 2010 Filed under: Interviews ARE Happening by admin

Four excited clients, four job interviews — that’s my good news for today as another week gets underway.  If you are in the job market, spending lots of time online perusing job boards, networking, and sending your resume — keep at it.

I realize it gets discouraging, it can be monotonous, and you just want to land that next great opportunity now.  However all good things take time and this is no different.  You must do your part and that includes spending time and effort identifying good opportunities in your field of interest, sending a well-written resume and cover letter, and waiting it out.

Some opportunities pop right away, others can take a month or longer.  One of my clients just sent her resume Friday and got the call for an interview today; she’ll be interviewing this Wednesday.  Another of my clients sent his resume a month ago and also got the call for an interview today and will interview next week.  Every situation is different, there is no predictable game plan.

It’s okay.  You do your part, keep your momentum up, and don’t stop your search.  The right company, the right salary, the right career match will become available.  It’s a matter of persistence and a matter of time.  If you’re in the job market, don’t lose your discipline for searching and sending — interviews ARE happening!

Much success,

Julie
